Another of the Royales that remain the mainstay of the 42s, 426 (P426 KSX) crosses over from Lady Road into Esselmont Road.Previous | NextOn the penultimate day of the service, SPD 77 (SK52 OJX) negotiates the level crossing at Kingsknowe. The 20 was a victim of the October 2008 service cuts much publicised in the local press. Even Lothian are not immune to the cost increases that stem from increased diesel prices; the government's dogged refusal to acknowledge that a total tax levy of around 130% of the value of the product is wrong and is crippling public transport operators throughout the country, it is difficult to accept their assurances that the charges are meant to benefit the environment, and are not just a means of raising revenue from a captive market. They've got us all over an (oil) barrel, it seems. Roll on the next General Election...
